Samfaina is one of the most typical accompaniments of Catalan cuisine. It consists of a preparation of stewed vegetables, which is usually prepared to accompany meat, fish, vegetables or eggs.
The samfaina is based on products of the Mediterranean garden, such as zucchini, eggplant and tomatoes. Although nowadays these vegetables are available all year round, the ideal is to prepare samfaina with seasonal produce. This is what is done in many homes and so it is used to make large quantities of samfaina with the vegetables at their best, and packaged for the whole year.
Samfaina is the perfect accompaniment to fish such as cod, or meat such as chicken.
